Is there a Santa?

Sally Asked: "I am a bit unsure about father Christmas. My husband just shouts order order whenever I ask. He claims that there is no such person as Santa. Is he telling the truth?"

Dear Sally Burka.

There are people in this world who would like to destroy the belief of Santa.  But I know, as I am sure you also know, that Santa does exist. Those who choose to pooh pooh the existence of Santa are almost always small in stature and snivelling little toe rags. Like all small terrier dogs, they have the nasty snarl of the cur, but lack the stature to back it up.

Children, enjoy the being told the tales and myths that have over generations created the mystery of Santa. Stories that are in part made of the truth, but also contain an essential element of mystery. All are important in setting in our children some compassionate values. Santa lived for me and I made sure that Santa lived on for my children.

There is a joy that comes from sitting and telling the story of Christmas Eve and Santa getting ready to deliver presents to boys and girls. Answering the questions from our excited offspring about how can he deliver all the presents in such a short time. Explaining about the flying characteristics of Reindeer. Explaining the important role the Elves play within Santa's little group of helpers. Explaining the wonderful mystery of a magical Christmas night and the flight round the world with gifts to distribute to the deserving children.

Santa is a part of our culture, our heritage and history. Anyone who tries to dispel the truth of Santa should be horse whipped. However, I am given to understand that some Conservative politicians look upon such chastisement and physical disciplinary matters, as pleasurable interludes.

Regards.

Uncle Mort.
